Jason Lam is a Hong Kong-based writer whose work spans theatre, screenwriting and advertising. He holds a BA in Japanese and Korean Studies from the University of Hong Kong, and an MFA in Drama (Playwriting), graduating with Distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
His work mainly explores human connection within the LGBTQ+ community, striving for a greater gay representation on stage and screen across Chinese-speaking regions. Characterised by sharp dialogue and dramatic storytelling, his writing examines poignant and intimate relationships in contemporary social realities. He is also passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration, having worked with artists beyond traditional drama theatre to develop innovative approaches to text and storytelling. His plays have been staged by theatre companies including Hong Kong Repertory, Actors' Family, Actor's Vision, Cinematic Theatre, and Beyond Dance Theater.
Beyond the stage, Jason works as a screenwriter. His screenplays have been shortlisted in various development programmes in Hong Kong and Mainland China, while his short film screenplays have received multiple awards at film competitions and festivals.
Professionally, Jason is also a copywriter in the advertising industry, creating social media and content campaigns for renowned brands and organisations such as Cathay Pacific, HSBC, and Bang & Olufsen.
