Jason Chak-ming Lam is a writer with a wide range of interests and mediums, born and based in Hong Kong.
Jason obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and Korean Studies from the University of Hon Kong. In 2024, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in Drama (major in Playwriting) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
At the age of 11, Jason published his first novel, marking the start of his writing journey. Since then, he has produced a diverse array of works across theatre, film, print media, television, and social media platforms.
In 2021, his 30-minute short play "A Ghost on the Train" won First Place in the "7th Heart River Cultivation Programme" at POP Theatre. The following year, his full-length play "Moral Education" earned the Champion title at the "7th Young Playwrights Scheme" at Cinematic Theatre. He has then continued to develop stage works, many of which have been produced or are currently in development progress with local theatre companies. "Men in the Bathhouse" was showcased as a play reading at "Playwright's Studio" at the Hong Kong Arts Centre and at the "Reader's Theatre" at the Hong Kong Repertory. This play was later transformed into a musical, which was previewed by Actors' Family in 2024. Additionally, in the same year, Jason was commissioned by Beyond Dance Theater for their "Contemporary Dance Theatre Development Scheme", where his play "Black Spots" was produced as a dramatic work and is set to be adapted into a dance/physical theatre performance. His thesis play "31 Years" was shortlisted in "Project Kite", a platform for developing original scripts at the Hong Kong Repertory.
Beyond his theatrical pursuits, Jason has also achieved recognition in screenwriting. His short film screenplay "The 30-Year-Old Bottom" won the Short Film Screenplay Competition at the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in 2022. In 2024, he was selected for the "Movie Maker Screenwriter Scheme" at the MM2 Entertainment Hong Kong and has developed his debut feature screenplay titled "Small Town Boys". His co-screenwriting credits include "Bric-A-Brac" and "Shape of Us".
Professionally, Jason is involved in copywriting, content creation, and social media communication in the advertising industry, working with clients such as HSBC, Cathay Pacific, The Henderson, and Starbucks etc. He also engages in freelance translation work across Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean.
